UEC and Poznań University of Technology Launch Two-Year International Education and Research Project with NAWA Support
The University of Electro-Communications (UEC) has been awarded a major two-year grant from the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) to launch a new joint project with Poznań University of Technology (PUT)

The project, titled SEIKO – Strategic Education & Interdisciplinary Knowledge Orchestration, will run from September 2025 to August 2027 and aims to strengthen international education, research collaboration, and researcher mobility between Japan and Poland.
Background
UEC and PUT have maintained active academic exchange for many years. As global collaboration becomes increasingly essential for addressing complex societal and technological challenges, both universities initiated the SEIKO project to build a more structured, long-term partnership. The initiative brings together expertise across engineering, information science, and digital technologies.
The project was selected under NAWA’s Strategic Partnerships Programme, which supports universities in enhancing their international competitiveness through joint research, education programmes, and researcher exchange.
Project Goals and Activities
SEIKO will advance internationalisation through five coordinated activities designed to benefit students, early-career researchers, and faculty from both institutions.
Remote Access to Shared Laboratories
UEC and PUT will develop an online platform connecting advanced laboratories at both universities, enabling students and researchers to conduct joint experiments and training remotely in fields such as AI, cybersecurity, communication networks, and data analysis.
Building Strong Researcher Networks
The programme will organise bilateral workshops, small research exchanges, and networking meetings to help researchers form new collaborative teams and co-develop project ideas.
Support for Doctoral Students
Doctoral students will receive mentorship, opportunities to join international research groups, internships, and training for applying to global research grants. The programme also promotes exposure to commercialisation pathways.
Educational Programmes for Master’s Students
Intensive courses, seminars, and summer schools will be offered to help master’s students strengthen technical skills and develop intercultural communication abilities essential for global careers.
Outreach and Public Engagement
Both universities will share project outcomes through joint public-relations activities, helping to highlight the impact of international academic collaboration and increase visibility of UEC’s global initiatives.
Expected Impact
The SEIKO project will enable broad two-way mobility between Japan and Poland, using both in-person and hybrid formats. Participants are expected to gain stronger cross-cultural communication skills, project-management experience, and the ability to conduct international teamwork—competencies increasingly needed in the global research environment.
Importantly, teaching materials co-developed through the project will be made available online for at least five years after completion, expanding access for students worldwide.
Comment from Poznań University of Technology
Professor Mariusz Głąbowski, Vice-Rector for International Affairs at PUT and Project Manager, commented:
“We are honored to begin this strategic project with UEC. SEIKO will enhance the quality of education and research at both universities and strengthen the academic bridge between Poland and Japan.”
